Thank you for coming to my Bat Mitzvah. It is so special to have all my close family and friends here with me.
For my chesed project, I hosted a bake sale and all the money went to an organization called Thank Israeli Soldiers. It is an organization which puts together packages for Israeli soldiers to show appreciation for all they do. Many of the packages contain letters written by children showing support. The packages, along with the letters, make such a difference because it shows the soldier that someone cares about what he is doing and it gives him chizuk, making him want to protect that child.
I asked all my classmates to bake. My friends responded with such excitement – not only did some of them bake one time; they baked 2, 3, or even 4. The cakes they made weren’t simple – we had cheesecake, confetti cake, sunflower cake, grape tart, fancy cookies, muffins just to name a few. In total, we had over 60 cakes and cookies. It made me feel really good that my friends were supporting me in this way.
One the day of the bake sale, I was rally nervous that no one would show up and I would have a lot of things for Shabbos. The bake sale was Thursday, January 29th from 4:30 – 8:00 pm. By 6:00 pm, all the cakes and cookies were gone. We were sold out. The other people who came were disappointed but still made donations. Many of the children who came wrote letters to the soldiers which we included when we sent the checks. We raised over $2000. It was a great experience for me to put this all together. It was very rewarding knowing that I can do something to bring happiness to soldiers in Israel and that me and my friends together could make a difference.
